Learning a new language is a complex and time-consuming process. The learner

needs to learn the symbols, sounds and grammar rules of the language in order to
use it to communicate effectively with others. It takes hundreds of hours to
learn new language skills. Learning at school is important but equally important is

practice at home. What can you do every day at home?

 Read Punjabi every day for a few minutes. You may read a few words, a
paragraph or a headline in a newspaper.
 Write 1-2 sentences in Punjabi everyday. Write your name, your family

members’ names, write a letter to someone, sopy a sentence, a paragraph, a
poem or a news from the newspaper.

 Translate English news, strories, sentences, words to Punjabi and from
Punjabi to English. This activity will improve your vocabulary in both

                     languages.

 There are lists of Most Common Punjabi words in this book. Read those
lists EVERY DAY, not just Sundays.

Remember your end goal is to be able to read and write fluent Punjabi. With

every letter, every phoneme, every word, every sentence and every story you are
closer to your goal. It is amazing to be bilingual. You can do it. It will take
you time but you can do it.
