pwT 5.2 Sentence Structure in Punjabi and English
We learned how English and Punjabi sentence structures are the same. But there are
also many differences in both languages.
Sentence Structures in English and Punjabi are different in many ways.
1. There are no capital letters in Punjabi, but English has.
2. The sentence ends with a dot in English but a long vertical line, the danddi in
Punjabi.
3. English has the article ‘the’. But there is no word in Punjabi that compares to
‘the’.
4. Punjabi only has one article ‘iek’ but English has two- ‘a’ and ‘an’.
5. Word order in English is subject-verb-object.
6. But the word order in Punjabi is subject-object-verb-and a helping verb.
7. Present tense verb changes and must have a helping verb in singular or plural
subjects in Punjabi. Noun and verb change form.

8. But in English, the noun or the verb changes, not both.
Boy eats. Boys eat.
