World Language Standards: Stage III
Range and Phase of Proficiency- Intermediate High
Following are the guidelines for Stage III of Punjabi Proficiency, Class Level 6.
Performance Stage III (Planned): Learners understand and produce paragraphs and strings of
paragraphs.
Content: 3.0 Students acquire information, recognize distinctive viewpoints
Stage III 3.1 Students address factual topics related to the immediate environment, including:
a. Social norms
b. Historical and cultural figures, stereotypes, Significant historical events
c. Community issues, current events, environmental concerns
d. Origins of rites of passage, social and regional customs
e. Cultural, historical, and geographic aspects of travel
f. Geographically and culturally appropriate clothing
Structures 3.0 Students use knowledge of text structure to understand topics
Stage III 3.1 Students use paragraph-level text structure to produce formal communications.
3.2 Students identify similarities and differences in the paragraph-level text structure
of the languages the students know.
Communication 3.0 Students use planned language (paragraphs and strings of paragraphs).
Stage III 3.1 Students engage in oral or written conversations.
3.2 Students interpret written or spoken language.
3.3 Students present to an audience of listeners, or readers.
Speech Functions
3.4 Students describe, narrate, explain, and state an opinion.
3.5 Students ask for permission, justify your answer.
3.6 Students demonstrate understanding of the main idea and key details in texts.
3.7 Students produce and present a written/oral product in a culturally authentic way.
Cultures: 3.0 Students determine appropriate responses to situations with complications.
Stage III 3.1 Students use products, practices, and perspectives in culturally appropriate ways.
3.2 Students describe similarities and differences in two cultures
3.3 Students describe how products and practices change when cultures come in contact.
Settings 3.0 Students use language in informal and some formal settings.
Stage III 3.1 Students initiate age-appropriate cultural or language-use opportunities.
