What is a Patka or Rumaal?
It is important to keep the hair covered so that it does not become
dirty and it does not open while playing or working. So the Sikhs tie a
small rumaal on the jooda or a patka on the head.
What is a Dastar or Turban?
A dastar or a turban is a
special head cover that Sikhs
and wear on their heads.
Most of the people who wear
turbans in America are Sikhs. A turban can be 5
meter long fabric tied nicely in a beautiful design. Most Sikhs tie a
fresh turban on their heads every day.
Long time ago, only kings and very rich people could wear a turban. But
now all Sikhs can wear it. Turban or dastar is like a crown for the
Sikhs. They treat it with a lot of respect. No one should touch a Sikh’s
