Preface

Gurmat Sikhia (Lessons according to Guru Ji’s teaching) is very important
part of a Sikh’s life. Our Gurus gave us very precious gift of Gurbani.

Gurbani is both a prayer and it also teaches us a good way of life. We
need to read Gurbani and understand it, so that we can follow it in our

life.

Another thing, we need to do is to memorize as much Gurbani as
possible. Whatever we remember, we can sing and recite at any time and

at any place. When we know Gurbani, we never feel alone, because Guru

Ji says:
“Bani Guru Guru Hai Bani”

(Bani and Guru are synonymous).

When we recite Gurbani from our heart, Guru is always with us.

“Guru mairay sang sadaa hai naalay.”

Gurmat Sikhia Book 2 is written for a young child. The focus is to

learn basic information about Sikhi, the Sikh Gurus and memorization of
Gurbani.

The lessons are written in English. It is assumed that young children
who are going to school in America are learning to read English. You are

also learning the Penty Akhri. Since you haven’t learned the Penty and the

Matras, you will not be able to read the information in Punjabi yet.

You can ask an adult is to read to or with you the chapters in this

book and discuss the meaning. Another purpose is memorization of
Gurbani. One way to memorize is to repeat each line 10 times. Then close

your eyes and see if you remember it. You must work on memorization

every day. Do not skip a day. It will take you 10-15 minutes each day to
