Grammar Point 1: Idioms: Idiom is kind of figurative language that makes speaking
and reading more fun. The words do not have the
literal meaning, but they imply a meaning. For example,
in this reading you will read an idiom cwr cMn lwauxw.
Literally it would mean to add four moons. Moon is
considered a sign of beauty. A person who is very
beautiful, people say cMn vrgw or cMn vrgI. So cwr cMn
lwauxw figuratively means ‘to beautify something’. ies Gr nUM b~qIAW nwl cwr cMn

Grammar Point 2: Interjections and Exclamations: These are words we use to
express strong emotions. When you feel impressed by something, you say, “Wow!
That’s awesome” or of you get hurt, you say, “Ouch!” When you use just one
word to express your emotion, it is an interjection. When you use more than one
word, it becomes an exclamation. There are many exclamations and interjections in
Punjabi as well. You will read one in this lesson. “kI kihxy!” is an exclamation that
means ‘beautiful and amazing’. Other exclamations are, “vwh jI vwh!, “E b~ly, b~ly”,
“auh qyrI!” “qyrw Blw hovy!” Other interjections are “vwh!”, “ik~dW?” “AYvYN?”, “hw hey!”
etc.
